PHYSICS 141-000 A (1st Session): Introductory Physics I, with Laboratory

Content: Introduction to classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Physics 141 is the first course of a two-semester, non-calculus introductory physics sequence. The student is expected to be competent in algebra, trigonometry, and plane geometry. Physics 141 and 142 are appropriate courses to satisfy a one-year physics requirement for various professional schools. Students who intend to pursue a BS in mathematics or one of the sciences should consider Physics 151 (not offered summer session). There are two, three-hour laboratories each week.


PHYSICS 142-000 C (2nd Session): Introductory Physics II, with Laboratory

Content: Introduction to electricity, magnetism, optics, the essentials of quantum mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics, and special relativity. Physics 142 is the second course of a two-semester non-calculus introductory physics sequence. There are two, three-hour laboratories each week.

Prerequisites: Physics 141 or 151.


PHYSICS 397R - OPA, OPB, OPC: Directed Study

Content: Varies.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

Particulars: Adapted to the particular needs of individual students, with the instructor acting as advisor.


PHYSICS 499 - OPA, OPB, OPC: Undergraduate Research

Faculty TBA 1st and 2nd Sessions MAX: 20 Credit: 2 - 4 Hours

Audience: For students who wish to participate in physics research with the instructor acting as research director.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
