This work is done in collaboration with Igor Veretennikov from Notre Dame and Peter Schiffer from Penn State. Igor Veretennikov provided us with MRI movies of grains being displace by a penetrating object. From these movies we can use particle tracking and PIV to measure the flow of displaced grains. Below are some plots of the resulting flow of grains due to an object being pushed downward through a pile of poppy seeds.
