Advising & General Information

To schedule an appointment with the Director of Undergraduate Studies

During advising periods, each physics major will receive an email announcing the beginning of the advisement period.  Each physics major is required to meet with his/her adviser before registering for the upcoming semester's classes.  If you wish to declare physics as your major please contact the director of undergraduate studies, Dr. Tom Bing, to discusss the degree options available to you.

The Director of Undergraduate Studies is assisted by Susan Cook, Undergraduate Program Coordinator at, who can also be contacted for information.

Pre-med students

The majority of pre-med students will fulfill their physics requirement after their freshmen year. However, pre-meds who want to keep a BS physics major open as an option, are advised to take calculus-based Physics 151 and 152 freshmen year.

It is adjacent to the Department¿s kitchen which you are also welcome to use. Please feel free to bring guests from physics classes with whom you are studying, but be sure to always accompany your guests and observe consideration for other students who need a quiet study area. All guests must be accompanied by a Physics major or minor. There are two computers set up with relevant software for your use. Please report any problems with them to Susan Cook in N248.

Physics majors who need to use the study lounge may request a key by sending an email to Calvin Jackson at: There is a $5.00 deposit for each key request. All keys need to be returned upon graduation or, if for any reason, you are no longer a physics major.
