Graduate Students Blend Teaching, Research
Physics graduate student, Neslihan Uncuncuoglu, is engaged in a unique Emory program that brings the excitement of scientific research to K-12 students. She is part of the 2011-2012 PRISM (Problems and Research to Integrate Science and Mathematics) program, which is funded by the National Science Foundation (Dr. Pat Marstellar, PI). PRISM unites graduate students with teachers to develop problem-based learning (PBL) science projects in Atlanta area schools. Nesli is working with Ms. Cherisse Campbell, at Amana Academy in Alpharetta, GA, to implement PBL strategies to 8th graders. In parallel with her PRISM activities, Nesli is conducting experimental biophysics research in the laboratory of Professor Kurt Warncke.
