Grad Student Blends Research, Teaching
Physics graduate student, Qing Shao, is engaged in a unique Emory program that brings the excitement of scientific research to junior and senior high school students. Qing is part of the 2009-2010 PRISM (Problems and Research to Integrate Science and Mathematics) program, which is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF; Dr. Pat Marstellar, PI). PRISM unites graduate students with middle and high school teachers to develop problem-based science learning projects in Atlanta area schools. Qing introduces physics to 11th graders in the Health and Medical Sciences School at the South Atlanta Educational Complex, in partnership with Mr. David Wetty at the SAEC.
In parallel with her PRISM activities, Qing performs research in single molecule biophysics in the laboratory of Dr. Laura Finzi.
