Bachelor of Arts
in Physics and Astronomy

Program description

The Bachelor of Arts in Physics and Astronomy offers a minimum core astronomy curriculum along with a selection of elective courses so that coherent programs may be planned which combine the fundamentals of astronomy and other disciplines of the liberal arts and sciences. It is well suited to students preparing to enter medicine, dentistry, law, business, secondary school teaching, and multidisciplinary fields of science and mathematics.

Senior Physics Elective

Physics Elective

BA students have a choice of taking either Physics 254, Classical Physics or both Physics 361, Analytical Mechanics I and Physics 365, Electromagnetic Fields I. Physics 254 covers, in one semester, the content of 361 and 365 at a simpler mathematical level. If you took both 361 and 365, one would count as one of your four physics electives.

**  Astrophysics I and II may be taken in any order. The laboratory for both includes the use of the 24-inch Cassegrain telescope and electronic imaging equipment.

Important:
All physics courses are offered only once a year—either in the Fall or Spring semester—with these exceptions: Physics 115 and 116 are offered both Fall and Spring semesters. Physics 311S and 312S are offered in the Spring in alternate years.
